Ciës eilanden

Had ik al gezegd dat Vigo een leuke stad is? Omdat er weinig tot geen internationaal vliegverkeer naar Vigo is, zijn er ook nauwelijks buitenlandse toeristen. De stad is daardoor gevuld met vooral Spanjaarden die houden van lekker en laat eten, kinderen die op voor ons onverantwoorde uren nog buitenspelen in de slecht verlichte, nauwe straatjes van de oude stad. De enige buitenlandse toeristen die je treft komen van de cruiseschepen die hier aanmeren. Maar met een beetje geluk zijn die s avonds weer vertrokken.

Een ander, groot pluspunt van Vigo zijn de Cies eilanden. 3 eilanden voor de kust van adembenemende schoonheid. Op slechts een uurtje varen met hagelwitte stranden en azuurblauw, helaas wel knetter-koud, water. De NY times heeft deze ooit uitgeroepen tot mooiste stranden van de wereld. Nu hecht ik daar niet zo veel waarde aan, maar het geeft je een idee. Het zuidelijke eiland is een vogelreservaat, de noordelijke eilanden zijn in ieder geval met eb met elkaar verbinden en toegankelijk voor publiek. Er mag slechts een beperkt aantal mensen per dag met de ferry naar de eilanden. Nu komt het goede nieuws: die moeten aan het eind van de middag ook weer met de ferry naar huis! Dat betekent dat de eilanden in de avond en in de ochtend nagenoeg verlaten zijn. Meerdere nachten heb ik hier geankerd in de baai beschuit tegen de deining van de oceaan. Vooral in de ochtend kun je fantastisch mooie wandelingen maken naar de top van de berg of de vuurtoren met een adembenemend uitzicht over Galicië in het geheel en mijn geliefde Vigo in het bijzonder.
