Het keerpunt

Nog geen twee dagen geleden toasten D en ik op het goede verloop van onze reis tijdens de halfway party. We lagen prima op schema voor aankomst in FP. M was inmiddels onderweg naar FP om het stokje van D over te nemen. Dat het wellicht wat onzeker was of de terugvlucht van D doorgang zou vinden schaarden we nog onder het kopje mooie verhalen voor later. How little did we know.

Twee rollercoaster dagen volgden. Inmiddels zijn wij ook niet gevrijwaard gebleven van de Corona maatregelen. M was speciaal eerder vanuit NL vertrokken om op tijd in FP te zijn voordat Corona roet in het eten kon gooien. KLM/Air France wilde niet meer vliegen. Daarom langs de andere kant, via Nieuw Zeeland. Na 2 lange vluchten via Singapore kwam ze in Auckland aan. Maar vlak voor vertrek naar FP werd M uit het vliegtuig gehaald. FP laat geen ‘non-residents’ meer toe was het commentaar van de officials.
Inmiddels heeft FP bepaald dat alle non-residents het land moeten verlaten. Voor ons geldt:

Ofwel, we moeten de boot voor anker achterlaten bij Tahiti en het land met het vliegtuig verlaten. Doorvaren is geen optie want omringende eilanden zijn of te ver varen of daar gelden (binnenkort) dezelfde restricties.
Wij varen nu naar het hoofdeiland van de de Marquesas waar we over een week hopen aan te komen. Daar mogen we tanken en provianderen om daarna door te moeten varen naar Tahiti. Gezien het tempo waarin de ontwikkelingen zich opvolgen in de laatste 3 dagen kan er nog een hoop veranderen. Inmiddels is de eerste besmetting gemeld op een boot in Tahiti. De kans dat maatregelen terug gedraaid worden neemt daardoor alleen maar af.
Dus waar FP de bekroning op een fantastisch reis moest worden, zijn we nu ietwat chagrijnig. Je kan je voorstellen dat de sfeer wat anders is dan tijdens de ‘Halfway party’. Het zou dus zo maar kunnen dat over een week of 3 wij in NL aankomen. Alhoewel ik er naar uit kijk jullie te zien, had ik me wat anders voorgesteld van het paradijs op aarde!
